Bicycle Powered Generator

& Portable Power System

The “energy box” with PV or bike-power input

and 120AC or 12DC output

To meet the need for a “turn-key,” stand-alone, complete electrical system at the lowest possible price, we are offering a total package as described below. Intended uses would be for emergencies, clean/quiet survival systems, and off-grid residential or portable power needs.

Included in the basic system package from Howe Engineering Company are:

  1. One 130/120 watt PV panel (one or two additional panels can be added at cost). One panel will recharge a 3 kWh battery pack in 24 hours of direct sunlight.

  2. One 1,000 watt modified sw. Schumacher PI-1000 inverter (2,000 watt surge capacity). An 8-foot cable and Kill-a-Watt meter are included for accurate AC output monitoring.

  3. Storage space for two deep-cycle marine batteries with 240 amphours capacity, enough energy for 20 hours at a 12 ampere rate. At a 40 ampere output rate, the battery capacity is reduced to 2.16 kWh, enough energy for 4.5 hours. Any automotive battery, 12 Volt charger, or the bike generator can be used in emergencies.

  4. One 30 amp charge controller with LED function indicators to show battery health.

Retail price: $1,100 for the complete system exclusive of shipping, batteries, and Maine sales tax. The optional 90 watt bike-generator costs only $225 and may be purchased separately.
